The Next Leap

Achieving growth through global networks, partnerships and cooperation
Hans J.C. Bakker, Martijn N.F. Babeliowsky and Frank J.W. Stevenaar

How cooperation in business can enable companies to move forwards and achieve profitable growth.

How can companies avoid stagnation and not only grow, but reap the benefits of growth in today’s global economy?

Conventional wisdom has it that they must learn to compete more ruthlessly than ever before to outdo their rivals and secure leading market positions. This book offers a refreshingly different perspective. It argues that the way forward in the twenty-first century is through cooperation rather than cut-throat competition.

Drawing on day-to-day client work at some of the world’s top companies as well as in-depth interviews with a dozen leading CEOs and board members, the authors show that cooperation is not a virtue, but a necessity for today’s businesses. Companies grappling with changing customer demands, a volatile economic climate and the challenge of integrating mergers and acquisitions must learn to work in new and different ways. They must turn their increasing reliance on clients, suppliers, governments and even competitors to their advantage by developing effective partnerships and alliances with other organizations on both a national and an international scale.

By making this “next leap”, companies will enhance their prospects of achieving profitable growth, creating sustainable value and ensuring corporate survival.
"The Next Leap is an example of the professional publisher's art at its most accomplished. Well presented, well structured, well illustrated, well edited and easy to navigate… The challenge to conventional top-down, macho thinking is valuable. This is a serious book that deserves to be taken seriously."

The success of today's corporations becomes more and more dependent on the ability to cope with cross-border and cross-cultural cooperation. Hans Bakker and his colleagues have written a very practical and useful handbook in which they describe how to apply permanent transformation in order to survive in a volatile economic environment."

This book breaks away from the popular notion that acquisitions are the only road to serious growth. Rather the authors argue that value creation is best realized by partnerships on a national and international level. Good news for everyone who wants to avoid the many risks and pitfalls of take-overs."
